Thomas Joseph "Tom" Corcoran (born May 23, 1939 in Ottawa , Illinois ) is an American politician . Between 1977 and 1984 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom Corcoran attended his home public schools including Marquette High School , which he graduated from in 1957. He then studied until 1961 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and then until 1962 at the University of Illinois and until 1963 at the University of Chicago . Corcoran served in the US Army between 1963 and 1965 . After serving in the military, he finished his studies in 1967 at Northwestern University . At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Partya political career. Between 1969 and 1972 he headed the State of Illinois Representation in the federal capital Washington, DC In 1973 and 1974 he served for the President of the Illinois Senate . From 1974 to 1976 he was Vice President of the Chicago-North Western Transportation Co.

In the 1976 congressional election , Corcoran was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 15th  constituency of Illinois, where he succeeded Tim Lee Hall on January 3, 1977 . After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on November 28, 1984 . Since 1983 he represented the 14th district of his state there as the successor to John N. Erlenborn . In 1984 Corcoran applied unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the US Senate elections . In 1984 and 1985 he was a board member of the then dissolved United States Synthetic Fuels Corporation .
