James V. Buckley

James Vincent Buckley (born May 15, 1894 in Saginaw County , Michigan , †  July 30, 1954 in Hammond , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Buckley was born on a farm in Michigan. He attended public schools in his home country and then moved to Chicago , where he worked in the automotive industry. He later worked in the local Cook County and Lake County , Indiana real estate and construction industries. During the Second World War he worked in the arms industry. He was also involved in the union movement and became president of a regional union for the automotive industry, Local Union 714 .

Politically, Buckley became a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1948 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Martin Gorski , who moved to the fifth district, on January 3, 1949 . Since he was not confirmed in 1950, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1951 . This was shaped by the events of the Cold War .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, James Buckley worked in Calumet City in the real estate and construction industries. He died in Hammond on July 30, 1954 and was buried in Gary .
