Jerry Costello
Jerry Francis Costello (born September 25, 1949 in East St. Louis , Illinois ) is an American politician . From 1988 to 2013 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Jerry Costello attended Assumption High School in East St. Louis until 1968 and then Belleville Area College and the Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis ( Missouri ). In the following years he worked in various positions in court administration and in the public prosecutor's office. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1980 and 1988 he was chairman of the St. Clair County County Council .
After the death of MP Charles Melvin Price , Costello won the due by-election in the 21st constituency of Illinois and moved to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC on August 9, 1988 . Since 1993 he has represented the twelfth district of his state as the successor to Phil Crane . In October 2011, Costello announced that he would not run again after twelve successful re-elections and resigned from Congress on January 3, 2013. His successor became a Democrat again with William Enyart .
Costello was most recently a member of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, as well as a total of four sub-committees.
