Charles Walhart Woodman (born March 11, 1844 in Aalborg , Denmark , †  March 18, 1898 in Elgin , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Woodman attended public schools in his Danish homeland. Between 1860 and 1863 he went to sea. Then he came to Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , where he was hired by the US Navy . He took part in the final phase of the civil war. After a subsequent law degree at Chicago University and his admission to the bar in 1871, he began to work in this profession. In 1877 he was appointed public prosecutor; In 1881 he became a Justice of the Peace in Cook County .

Politically, Woodman became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded the Democrat Julius Goldzier on March 4, 1895 . Since he was not confirmed in 1896, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Charles Woodman practiced again as an attorney. He died in Elgin on March 18, 1898 and was buried in Chicago.
