Jesse Hale Moore

Jesse Hale Moore (born April 22, 1817 in Lebanon , Illinois , †  July 11, 1883 in Callao , Peru ) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1873 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jesse Moore attended McKendree College in his hometown of Lebanon. Between 1842 and 1844 he worked in Nashville and from 1844 to 1848 in Georgetown as a teacher. After studying theology, he was ordained a clergyman of the Methodist Church in 1849 . During the civil war he served as a colonel in the Union army . After the war he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1868 congressional election , Moore was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the Seventh Constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Henry PH Bromwell on March 4, 1869 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 4, 1873 . From 1871 he was chairman of the committee for disability pensions. In 1872 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

Between 1873 and 1877, Jesse Hall served as a Federal Pension Agent in Springfield . He was also a pastor in Mechanicsburg . In 1881 he was appointed American consul in Callao, Peru by US President Chester A. Arthur . He died there on July 11, 1883.
