Henry Snapp

Henry Snapp (born June 30, 1822 in Livonia , Livingston County , New York , †  November 26, 1895 in Joliet , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1825, Henry Snapp moved with his parents to Rochester , where he attended public schools. From 1833 he lived in Homer (Illinois), where he continued his school education. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1843, he began to work in this profession in Joliet. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1869 to 1871 he was a member of the Illinois Senate .

After the resignation of MP Burton C. Cook , Snapp was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 4, 1871, when the by-election was due for the sixth seat of Illinois . Since he was no longer running in 1872, he was only able to end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1873 . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Henry Snapp practiced again as a lawyer in Joliet, where he died on November 26, 1895. He was the father of Congressman Howard M. Snapp (1855-1938).
