William H. Gest

William Harrison Gest (born January 7, 1838 in Jacksonville , Morgan County , Illinois , †  August 9, 1912 in Rock Island , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1842, William Gest moved to Rock Island with his parents. He later studied at Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ), which he graduated in 1860. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1862, he began to work in Rock Island in this profession. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1886 Gest was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded William H. Neece on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . In 1890 he was not re-elected. Gest was a judge in the 14th District of Illinois from 1897 until his death on August 9, 1912.
