Robert A. Childs

Robert Andrew Childs (born March 22, 1845 in Malone , Franklin County , New York , †  December 19, 1915 in Hinsdale , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1852 Robert Childs came to Belvidere , Illinois with his parents , where he later attended public schools. During the Civil War , he served as a soldier in an Illinois infantry regiment that was part of the Union Army . After the war he continued his education. In 1870 he graduated from Illinois State Normal University . Then he was from 1871 to 1873 school council in Amboy . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1872, he began to work in this profession in Belvidere. In 1873 he moved to Hinsdale near Chicago . There he became a member of the local council and the school committee.

Politically, Childs joined the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1892 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded the Democrat Lewis Steward on March 4, 1893 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1894, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1895 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Childs practiced as a lawyer again. He died on December 19, 1915 in Hinsdale.
