Edward H. Jenison
Edward Halsey Jenison (born July 27, 1907 in Fond du Lac , Wisconsin , † June 24, 1996 in Paris , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1953 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Edward Jenison attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison . Between 1925 and 1937 he worked in the newspaper industry. From 1938 he was a newspaper publisher in Paris. During the Second World War he was an officer in the United States Navy between 1943 and 1946 . He was used in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. After the war he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In the 1946 congressional election , Jenison was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th electoral district of Illinois , where he succeeded Jessie Sumner on January 3, 1947 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1953 . Since 1949 he represented the 23rd district of his state there. During this time the Cold War and the Korean War began .
In 1952, Jenison was not re-elected. In 1954 and 1962 he tried unsuccessfully to return to Congress. Otherwise he worked again in the publishing industry. In 1956 and 1968 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Conventions , at which Dwight D. Eisenhower and later Richard Nixon were nominated as presidential candidates. Between June 1960 and January 1961 Jenison served as a director in the Illinois Department of the Treasury; from 1965 to 1966 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives . He was also a member of a constitutional convention in his state in 1969 and 1970. He died in Paris on June 24, 1996.
