Calvin Dean Johnson (born November 22, 1898 in Fordsville , Ohio County , Kentucky , † October 13, 1985 in Belleville , Illinois ) was an American politician . From 1943 to 1945 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1904, Calvin Johnson came with his parents to St. Clair County , Illinois, where he attended public schools. Between 1922 and 1944 he worked as an entrepreneur. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1926 and 1928 he was a member of the St. Clair County School Board; from 1930 to 1934 he sat in the local district council. Between 1935 and 1941 he was an MP in the Illinois House of Representatives .

In the congressional elections of 1942, Johnson became the 22nd electoral district of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeded the on January 3, 1943 Democrat Edwin M. Schaefer took. Since he was not confirmed in 1944, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1945 . This was shaped by the events of the Second World War .

In 1946, Johnson ran unsuccessfully to return to Congress. Between 1952 and 1968 he worked for Remington-Rand, Inc. He died on October 13, 1985 in Belleville.
