Bartolomeo Pacca (the younger) (born February 25, 1817 in Benevento , Kingdom of the Two Sicilies , † October 14, 1880 in Grottaferrata ) was an Italian cardinal curia .

Life

Pacca, whose great-uncle Bartolomeo Pacca was also a cardinal , first studied in Rome and Velletri . In 1838 he became the private chamberlain of Pope Gregory XVI. who sent him to France as an ablegato the next year .

When he returned to Rome, he was ordained a priest on June 6, 1841 from his great-uncle, who had probably also contributed to his earlier ascent. Immediately thereafter, Pacca took over important offices at the Curia, for example he was a member of the Congregation for the Clergy . From 1851 he worked at the Apostolic Court and was Vice President of the Roman Crime Tribunal until 1853. On June 16, 1858, Pope Pius IX appointed him . chambermaster, which he remained until 1868. Thereafter, Pacca took over the leadership of the papal household as prefect.

On March 15, 1875, he was finally accepted into the College of Cardinals . The cardinal creation was made in pectore and was not announced until four months later. Cardinal Pacca took part in the conclave in which Leo XIII. was chosen. He died two years later at the age of only 63.
