Charles Adkins (born February 7, 1863 in Pickaway County , Ohio , †  March 31, 1941 in Decatur , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1933 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Adkins attended the public schools in his home country and then worked as a teacher for several years. In 1885 he moved to Piatt County , Illinois, where he worked in agriculture. In his new home he became President of the Piatt County Farmers' Institute . Between 1900 and 1920 he sat on the education committee of the city of Bement . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . From 1902 to 1906 he was a member of the Piatt County County Council. Between 1907 and 1913 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives ; since 1911 he was the successor of Edward D. Shurtleff its president . In 1914 and 1915, Adkins directed the Illinois ranchers' association; from 1916 to 1920 he was Minister of Agriculture in his state. From 1918 he lived in Decatur.

In the 1924 congressional election , Adkins was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Allen F. Moore on March 4, 1925 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . These had been shaped by the events of the Great Depression since 1929 . In 1932 he was not re-elected. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Adkins was no longer politically active. He died in Decatur on March 31, 1941.
