Thomas Angyan
Thomas Angyan (born March 16, 1953 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer, music manager and artistic director of the Wiener Musikverein .
Life
Training and career start
After graduating from the Theresianum in 1971, Thomas Angyan studied law at the University of Vienna . After the first state examination he worked for six months at a bank in London and after the second state examination at the Wiener Konzerthaus . While he was still preparing for the third state examination, he was hired to help prepare for the 1977 Vienna Festival . In the same year he received his doctorate and prepared a song competition for the Society of Music Friends . He then completed the course in cultural management at the University of Music and Performing Arts .
In 1978 Angyan was appointed general secretary of the Austrian Musical Youth , the Austria section of the international association " Jeunesses Musicales ", and was its managing director until 1987.
Society of Friends of Music in Vienna
In 1987 Angyan was appointed general secretary of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna (better known as the Musikverein ) to succeed Albert Moser (1920–2001) and took up this position in September 1987. In 2005 he was appointed the company's first director. During his tenure, the music club building was rebuilt and expanded. Among other things, four new halls designed by Wilhelm Holzbauer were opened on March 20, 2004 , with the glass and metal halls as well as the stone and wooden halls, and the entire building was renovated and air-conditioned.
At the General Assembly on November 28, 2018, Angyan announced that he would not renew his contract, which will end on June 30, 2020. He sees the festivities of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna in the 2019/20 season with the anniversary of the opening of their club building as the right time to put the management in younger hands. He will be succeeded by Stephan Pauly , who was designated General Manager in April 2019, on July 1, 2020. Angyan has not extended his contract as artistic director of the Wiener Musikverein , which will expire in 2020.
family
Thomas Angyan comes from the old Hungarian noble family Ángyán de Vörösberény. He is the son of Johannes Angyan (1919–1975), an industrialist and former board member of Leipnik-Lundenburger Zuckerfabriken-Actiengesellschaft as well as a member of the board of trustees of the Vienna Theresianum and of Margaretha (1924–2005), née Adam.
He is married to Eva Angyan (* 1957 in Vienna), teacher and former ball president of the Philharmonic Ball . Her son Johannes Angyan, like his father, is a lawyer, works as a research assistant at the Academy of Sciences and publishes legal articles.
