The Mississippi County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Missouri . In 2010 , the county had 14,358 residents and a population density of 13.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Charleston , named after the landowner Charles Moore , who donated the land to the city.

The county is located almost in the extreme southeast of Missouri, borders the states of Illinois and Kentucky , from which it is separated by the Mississippi River . Mississippi County is across from the mouth of the Ohio River , which delimits the two neighboring states.
It has an area of 1111 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water.

Mississippi County was formed in 1845. It was named after the Mississippi River that borders the county to the east.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census , Mississippi County had 14,358 people in 5,287 households. The population density was 13.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.61 people lived in 5287 households.
The racial the population was composed of 74.1 percent white, 24.0 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.6 percent of the population.
22.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 62.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.2 percent were 65 years or older. 46.4 percent of the population was female.
