Miller County was formed in 1837. It was named after John Miller (1781-1846), the fourth governor of Missouri (1825-1832) and later member of the US House of Representatives (1837-1843).

Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 6, 2018).

Demographic data

As of the 2010 census , Miller County had 24,748 people in 10,410 households. The population density was 16.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.33 people in each of the 10,410 households.

The racial the population was composed of 96.8 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 0.6 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.5 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
