The county seat is Kennett , which was named after the Mayor of St. Louis , Luther Martin Kennett , in 1851 . The county is a trading and manufacturing center for cotton , soybeans, and livestock .

Dunklin County is located in the extreme southeast of Missouri, known as the Bootheel . The county borders the state of Arkansas to the south and west and has an area of 1,417 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water.
Dunklin County is the lowest point in the state of Missouri on the Saint Francis River , a tributary of the Mississippi that flows into Arkansas.

history
Dunklin County was formed on February 14, 1845 from parts of Stoddard County. It was named after Daniel Dunklin (1790-1844), a former governor of Missouri (1832-1836).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census , Dunklin County had 31,953 people in 13,253 households. The population density was 22.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.26 people lived in each of the 13,253 households.
The racial the population was composed of 85.1 percent white, 9.7 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.4 percent of the population.
25.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.2 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.5 percent were 65 years or older. 52.0 percent of the population was female.
