With Jonesboro ( Western District ) and Lake City ( Eastern District ) the county has two administrative seats ( County Seats ). The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the extreme northeast of Arkansas and borders Missouri at its northeastern tip . It has an area of ​​1,847 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. history

Craighead County was formed on February 19, 1859 from parts of Greene County, Mississippi County and Poinsett County. It was named after Thomas H. Craighead (1798-1862), a representative of Mississippi Counties and Crittenden Counties in the Arkansas government.
