The Grant County is a county in the state of Arkansas the United States . The county seat is Sheridan . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited. Grant County is part of the Little Rock metropolitan area .

The county is located south of the geographic center of Arkansas and has an area of 1,639 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

Grant County was formed on February 4, 1869 from parts of Hot Spring County, Jefferson County and Saline County. It was named after the 18th US President Ulysses S. Grant .
One of the earliest roads in the county was part of the Camden Trail . The western portion of the county was connected to Little Rock and Camden by a truckable road . There were five ferries to cross the river.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census , Grant County had 16,464 people in 6,241 households and 4,780 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.55 percent white, 2.47 percent African American, 0.45 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.64 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.15 percent of the population.
Of the 6,241 households, 35.6 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 64.7 percent were married couples living together, 8.5 percent were single mothers, and 23.4 percent were non-families. 20.4 percent of all households were single households and 9.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.00.
25.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24, 29.6 percent between 25 and 44, 24.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.2 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 98.5 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there was an average of 96.3 males.
The median income for a household in the 37,182 USD , and the median income for a family 42,901 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,842 versus $ 22,098 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,547. 7.8 percent of families and 10.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
