The Ouachita County is a county in the US state of Arkansas . The county seat is Camden .

The county is located in south-central Arkansas, about 37 miles south of Louisiana , and covers an area of 1,916 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Ouachita County was formed on November 29, 1842 from parts of Union County as the 45th County in Arkansas. It was named after the Ouachita River that flows through the county.
The first school building was built in 1871. Until 1880, the main transport of people and goods was done by steamship. The main buyers of the goods produced were Baton Rouge and New Orleans . After 1880, the Reader Railroad , then also known as the Possum Trot Line , brought the railroad to the county. The train connection promoted the emergence of new cities and communities.
In 1907 Garland Anthony started a small sawmill, from which the Anthony Timberlands company has emerged to this day . In 1928 the production of paper was added, today's International Paper Company .
