The Lonoke County is a county in the US state of Arkansas . The county seat is Lonoke . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited. Lonoke County is part of the Little Rock metropolitan area .

Lonoke County was formed on April 16, 1873 from Prairie County and Pulaski County. The county is the only one in Arkansas whose county capital bears the same name as the county itself. It was named after a railroad surveyor who used a massive, ancient red oak as a reference point for his survey.
Demographic data
As of the 2000 census , Lonoke County had 52,828 people in 19,262 households and 15,024 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.03 percent white, 6.44 percent African American, 0.49 percent Native American, 0.42 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.51 percent from other ethnic groups Groups. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.08 percent of the population.
Of the 19,262 households, 40.3 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 63.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.6 percent were single mothers, 22.0 percent were non-families. 19.0 percent of all households were single households and 7.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.09.
28.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24, 30.9 percent between 25 and 44, 21.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.4 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 35 years. Statistically, there were 96.8 males for every 100 females and an average of 93.5 males for every 100 females aged 18 and over.
The median income for a household in the 40,314 USD , and the median income for a family 46,173 USD. Males had a median income of $ 32,451 versus $ 22,897 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,397. 8.1 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
