The county is located in northeastern Arkansas and has an area of 2,700 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
The White County was formed on October 23, 1835 from parts of Independence County, Jackson County and Pulaski County. It was named after Hugh Lawson White , a US Senator from Tennessee .

According to the 2000 census , White County had 67,165 people in 25,148 households and 18,408 families. The population density was 25 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.52 percent white, 3.56 percent African American, 0.43 percent Native American, 0.32 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.82 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.31 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.88 percent of the population.
Of the 25,148 households, 33.0 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 59.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers, and 26.8 percent were non-families. 23.4 percent of all households were single households and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.98.
24.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 12.8 percent between 18 and 24, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44, 21.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.8 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 95.2 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there was an average of 92.9 males.
The median income for a household in the 32,203 USD , and the median income for a family 38,782 USD. Males had a median income of $ 29,884 versus $ 20,323 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,890. 10.4 percent of families and 14.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
