Clark County was formed on December 15, 1818 from parts of Arkansas County. It was named after William Clark (1770-1838), a governor of Missouri - the territory of the Member and Lewis and Clark Expedition .
The county's borders were revised five times until they have been consolidated in their current form since 1877.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census , Clark County had 23,546 people in 8,912 households and 5,819 families. The population density was ten inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.28 percent white, 22.02 percent African American, 0.46 percent Native American, 0.62 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.37 percent from other ethnic groups Groups. The median age was 32 years. Statistically, there were 92.7 males for every 100 females and an average of 88.9 males for every 100 females aged 18 and over.
