The Mississippi County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Arkansas . In 2010 the county had 46,480 residents and a population density of 20 people per square kilometer. The administrative seats ( County Seats ) are Blytheville and Osceola , making Mississippi County one of the counties that have two administrative seats .
geography
The county is located in northeast Arkansas, borders Missouri to the north and the Mississippi River , which forms the border with Tennessee , to the east . It has an area of 2,382 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water. The Little River runs parallel to the Mississippi through the west of the county. history
The first Europeans in the area were likely Hernando de Soto with his companions after crossing the Mississippi in 1541 . Father Jacques Marquette was also in the area in 1673 during his Mississippi expedition. The French explorer La Salle was probably also here in 1682 .
Mississippi County was formed on November 1, 1833 from parts of Crittenden County. It was named after the Mississippi, which forms the eastern border of the county . The first district capital was Osceola. In 1870 the district court was moved to Blytheville.
The 1840 census documented a population of 1,410 people, 510 of whom were slaves. Other settlements in the county were Barfield, Chickasawba (later absorbed in Blytheville) and Elmot (now Luxora).

According to the 2010 census , Mississippi County had 46,480 people in 18,639 households. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.48 people lived in each of the 18,639 households.
The racial the population was composed of 61.6 percent white, 34.0 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 3.6 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
28.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 59.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 12.2 percent were 65 years or older. 51.8 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 33,660 USD . The per capita income was $ 18,053. 23.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
