The county is located in northern Arkansas, about 50 km from the Missouri border and covers an area of 1,728 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Searcy County was formed on December 13, 1838 from parts of Marion County. It was named after Richard Searcy , an early pioneer of the Arkansas Territory.

As of the 2000 census , Searcy County had 8,261 people in 3,523 households and 2,466 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.26 percent white, 0.04 percent African American, 0.75 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.45 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.34 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.04 percent of the population.
Of the 3,523 households, 27.9 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 58.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.7 percent were single mothers, and 30.0 percent were non-families. 28.0 percent of all households were single households and 14.3 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.83.
22.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.9 percent between 18 and 24, 24.5 percent between 25 and 44, 26.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 19.2 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 98.0 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there was an average of 94.8 males.
The median income for a household in the 21,397 USD , and the median income for a family 27,580 USD. Males had a median income of $ 21,768 versus $ 16,276 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,536. 17.8 percent of families and 23.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
