The Saline County is a county in the US state of Arkansas . The county seat is Benton . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited. Saline County is part of the Little Rock metropolitan area .

history
Saline County was formed on November 2, 1835 from parts of Hempstead County and Pulaski County. It was named after the salt mines that existed in the area at that time.

As of the 2000 census , Saline County had 83,529 people in 31,778 households and 24,500 families. The population density was 45 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.27 percent white, 2.20 percent African American, 0.49 percent Native American, 0.57 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.45 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.00 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race 1.30 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 31,778 households, 35.4 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 63.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers, and 22.9 percent were non-families. 19.6 percent of all households were single households and 7.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.94.
25.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.7 percent between 18 and 24, 30.2 percent between 25 and 44, 24.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.5 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there was an average of 95.3 males.
The median income for a household in the 42,569 USD , and the median income for a family 48,717 USD. Males had a median income of $ 32,052 versus $ 23,294 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,214. 5.0 percent of families and 7.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
