The Washington County is a county in the US state of Arkansas . The county seat is Fayetteville .

Washington County is part of the Fayetteville – Springdale – Rogers metropolitan area in Arkansas and Missouri .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Arkansas, borders Oklahoma to the west and has an area of 2,476 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

George Washington

Washington County was formed on October 17, 1828 from parts of Crawford County. It was named after President George Washington . The district capital was also called Washington at first, but after there was also a parish called Washington in Hempstead County, the city was renamed Fayetteville. The Battle of Cane Hill took place here on November 28, 1862, and the Battle of Prairie Grove between Union forces and the Confederates on December 7 of the same year .

Washington County had a population of 157,715 people as of the 2000 census . Of these 6,060 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 60,151 households and 39,459 families. The population density was 64 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.00 percent white, 2.24 percent African American, 1.25 percent Native American, 1.54 percent Asian, 0.53 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.26 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.17 percent are descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 8.20 percent of the population.

Of the 60,151 households, 32.5 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 52.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.4 percent were single mothers, and 34.4 percent were non-families. 25.8 percent of all households were single households and 7.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.07.

25.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 15.3 percent between 18 and 24, 30.2 percent between 25 and 44, 19.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 9.9 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 100.4 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there was an average of 98.7 males.

The median income for a household in the 34,691 USD , and the median income for a family 42,795 USD. Males had a median income of $ 29,428 versus $ 21,769 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,347. 9.4 percent of families and 14.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
