Lincoln County was formed on March 28, 1871 from parts of Arkansas County, Bradley County, Desha County, Drew County, and Jefferson County. It was named after Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), the 16th US President .

The first county court convened on April 24, 1871 at Cane Creek Church , where Star City would later be built and was chosen to be the county seat, although it was not the central location in the county.

In February 1873, the Little Rock, Pine Bluff and New Orleans Railroad was completed. Other cities like Grady or Gould were formed along the railroad and became important trading centers.

Demographic data

As of the 2000 census , Lincoln County had 14,492 people in 4,265 households and 3,130 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 64.88 percent white, 32.92 percent African American, 0.40 percent Native American, 0.06 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.99 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.75 percent were descended from two or more races.
