Marion County was formed on September 25, 1836 from parts of Izard County as Searcy County and renamed in 1836 in honor of Francis Marion (1732–1795), a general in the American Revolutionary War .
Yellville, the district capital, was taken over from the Indians by white settlers and is one of the oldest settlements in the United States. In the past, Yellville was under Spanish, French and American administration. After that it belonged to Louisiana - territory , to Missouri - territory and later to Arkansas - territory .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census , Marion County had 16,653 people in 6,750 households. The population density was 10.8 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The racial the population was composed of 97.0 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 0.7 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.7 percent of the population.
