The county is located in the extreme south of Missouri in the Ozarks and borders Arkansas .
It has an area of 1956 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water.
In the southwest, the county has a share of Bull Shoals Lake , a reservoir of the White River . Lake Norfork , located further east, was created by damming the North Fork River , which flows through the county from north to south.

Ozark County was formed in 1841. It was named after the Ozark Mountains. From 1843 to 1845, the county was renamed Decatur County, named after Navy officer Stephen Decatur .
Demographic data
As of the 2010 census , Ozark County had 9,723 people in 3,964 households. The population density was 5.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.44 people in each of the 3,964 households.
The racial the population was composed of 97.4 percent white, 0.3 percent African American, 0.8 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.5 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
19.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 56.5 percent were between 18 and 64 and 23.9 percent were 65 years or older. 49.6 percent of the population was female.
