The county is located almost in the far northwest of Missouri on the east bank of the Missouri River , which forms the border with Kansas . Parallel to the Missouri, the Platte River flows through the county, which flows into the Missouri a few kilometers above Kansas City further south . Andrew County was formed on January 29, 1841 on the area acquired by the Indians in the Platte Purchase . It was named after Andrew Jackson Davis , a lawyer and politician.
