The Callaway County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Missouri . In 2010 the county had 44,332 residents and a population density of 20.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Fulton , which was named after Robert Fulton , the inventor of the steamboat.
geography
The county is located just northeast of the geographic center of Missouri on the north bank of the Missouri River . It has an area of 2194 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water.
The boroughs of Jefferson City , the capital of the state of Missouri, are located north of the Missouri and belong to Calloway County. To the east of it stretches on both sides of the river the so-called Missouri Rhineland , a region that for a long time was strongly influenced by wine-growing German immigrants from the Rhineland and their descendants.

history
Callaway County was formed on November 25, 1820 from former parts of Montgomery County. It was named after James Calloway (1783-1815), an officer and grandson of Daniel Boone .
Two locations have National Historic Landmark status , Research Cave and Westminster College High School . 19 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 5, 2018).
