Clark County was formed on December 16, 1836 from former parts of Lewis County. It was named after William Clark (1770-1838), the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and later governor of the Missouri Territory (1813-1820).

Demographic data

As of the 2010 census , Clark County had 7,139 people in 2,994 households. The population density was 5.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.39 people each in the 2,994 households.
