Randolph County was formed on January 22, 1829 from parts of Chariton County. It was named after John Randolph (1773-1833), a member of the US House of Representatives and US Senator from Virginia .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census , there were 25,414 people in 9,070 households in Randolph County. The population density was 20.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.5 people lived in 9070 households.

The racial the population was composed of 91.1 percent white, 6.0 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.1 percent were descended from two or more races.
