Cleburne County was formed on February 20, 1883 from parts of Independence County, Van Buren County and White County as the last county in Arkansas. It was named after Patrick Ronayne Cleburne (1828–1864), a general in the Confederate Army .
Demographic data
As of the 2000 census , Cleburne County had 24,046 people in 10,190 households and 7,408 families. The population density was 17 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.20 percent white, 0.12 percent African American, 0.47 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.15 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.17 percent of the population.
Of the 10,190 households, 26.3 percent had children or adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 61.7 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers, and 27.3 percent were non-families. 24.4 percent of all households were single households and 12.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.74.
21.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24, 24.1 percent between 25 and 44, 26.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 21.1 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 93.9 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there was an average of 92.5 males.
The median income for a household in the 31,531 USD , and the median income for a family 37,273 USD. Males had a median income of $ 28,844 versus $ 19,672 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,250. 9.0 percent of families and 13.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
