The Ben Laney Bridge is a historic road bridge in Camden , in Ouachita County , in the US state of Arkansas , in the United States . The bridge is on US Route 79B , and spans the Ouachita River . The bridge is crossed by an average of 4,300 vehicles per day (as of 2008).

Construction work on the bridge began on December 8, 1945 and should be completed on schedule in 1946. Since there was a bottleneck in the supply of steel due to the Second World War , the final work was delayed until 1947. In the meantime a temporary wooden bridge has been built. The Ben Laney Bridge was officially inaugurated on April 16, 1947, and dedicated to Governor Benjamin Travis Laney . It replaced the former Martin Bridge . The construction contract was awarded to the DF Jones Construction Company from Little Rock .

The total span is 39.3 meters, the total length 304.1 meters and the carriageway width 7.28 meters. The bridge is built in the style of the framework . The foundation is made of concrete. Other building materials are steel and stone.

The Ben Laney Bridge was listed as a Historic Monument on June 9, 2000 by the National Register of Historic Places with the number 00000633. It is also part of the Historic Bridges of Arkansas MPS .
