Perryville is located at latitude 37 ° 39'0 "north and longitude 84 ° 57'1" west. Danville in the east and Harrodsburg in the northeast are both 15 kilometers away . Louisville is located approximately 90 kilometers to the northwest.
history
The forerunner of today's Perryville was a small fortress on the Chaplin River in the final stages of the American Revolution . Since the area was agriculturally usable, more settlers came to the area. In honor of the naval officer Oliver Hazard Perry , who was known as the hero of the Battle of Lake Erie , the place was named "Perryville".
On October 8, 1862, the fields west of the city were the scene of the Battle of Perryville , also known as the "Battle of the Chaplin River". The battle resulted in the Confederate surrender of Kentucky, despite a victory . At Perryville Battlefield State Park , the battle is re-enacted each year.
In 1961, Perryville became a National Historic Landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
