Oldham County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is La Grange . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northern Kentucky, bordering the state of Indiana in the northwest , separated by the Ohio River and has an area of 509 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Trimble County , Henry County , Shelby County, and Jefferson County .
history
Oldham County was formed on December 15, 1823 from parts of Henry County, Jefferson County, and Shelby County. It was named after Colonel Williamson Simpson Oldham , who was killed in Indian fighting.

According to the 2000 census , Oldham County had 46,178 people in 14,856 households and 12,196 families. The population density was 94 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.62 percent white, 4.21 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.44 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.55 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.97 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.30 percent of the population.
Of the 14,856 households, 44.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 71.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.8 percent were single mothers, 17.9 percent were non-families, 14.9 percent were single households and 4.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.17.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 33.1 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 7.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 114.0 males. For every 100 women 18 years of age or older there were statistically 117.9 men.
The median income for a household in the 63,229 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 70,495 USD. Males had a median income of $ 46,962 versus $ 28,985 for females. The per capita income was $ 25,374. 2.9 percent of families and 4.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 4.5 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.0 percent were people over 65 years of age.
