Troy Automobile & Buggy Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

James Stanley announced in 1905 that he wanted to manufacture a cheap vehicle. In 1906 he started a company in Mooreland , Indiana . The company name was either Stanley Automobile Manufacturing Company , Stanley Automobile Company or Stanley Automobile & Manufacturing Company . In 1907 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Stanley . Production in Mooreland ended in late 1908.

In 1909, Stanley merged with the Troy Buggy Company of Troy , Ohio . The company now traded as Troy Automobile & Buggy Company . Production continued. It ended in February 1910.

In total, only a few vehicles were built. A source states that 25 pieces were made in Mooreland.

There was no affiliation with the Stanley Motor Carriage Company , which used the same brand name for their steam cars .

Only one model was on offer. It had a two-cylinder engine with water cooling . 127 mm bore and 139.7 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 3539 cc and 20 hp . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a planetary gear and a chain. The chassis had a 221 cm wheelbase . The original price was 575 US dollars .

In a catalog of 1907 as the vehicle is Model A designated. The bore is specified with 133.35 mm, which results in 3902 cm³ displacement. The wheelbase is confirmed and the track width is given as 142 cm. The tire size of 30 inches corresponded to the Model T Ford . The curb weight was given as about 454 kg. The structure was a tonneau with five seats.

An announced model with cardan drive no longer appeared.
