Harry S. Houpt Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Harry S. Houpt founded the company in New York City in August 1909 . However, the plant was located in New Britain , Connecticut . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Houpt , from 1910 also unofficially Houpt-Rockwell .

In April 1910, the takeover by the New Departure Manufacturing Company followed . This company manufactured largely identical vehicles with the brand name Houpt-Rockwell during 1910 .

There were two models on offer. The Four had a four-cylinder engine with 139.7 mm bore , 152.4 mm stroke , 9344 cm³ displacement and 60 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 323 cm . The bodies were touring car , toy tonneau , runabout , limousine and landaulet .

The Six had a six-cylinder engine with the same cylinder dimensions. It developed 90 hp from a displacement of 14,015 cm. The wheelbase was 356 cm. The range of bodies corresponded to the smaller model.
