EA Nelson Automobile Company , previously EA Nelson Motor Car Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Emil A. Nelson had earned a good reputation with Packard , Oldsmobile and Hupmobile . In 1917 he made his own . He founded the EA Nelson Motor Car Company in Detroit , Michigan . He started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Nelson . The production capacity was ten vehicles a day. The post-war depression hit him hard. A planned cooperation in 1919 with the engine manufacturer Gray Company from the same city did not work out. The first bankruptcy followed in March 1920 .

In September 1920 a reorganization led to the EA Nelson Automobile Company . A year later, in September 1921, the end came with the second bankruptcy.

A total of around 1000 vehicles were built, one of which still exists.

From 1917 to 1919 there was only one model. It had a self-developed four-cylinder engine with OHC valve control and 29 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 264 cm. The choice was between touring car , roadster and sedan . Another source gives 10 inches (25.4 cm) more wheelbase, or 289 cm.

1920 from the Model D . The dates didn't change. The limousine was omitted.

Model E followed in 1921 . The engine output was now given as 30 hp. Further changes have not been reported.
