Detroit Air Cooled Car Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles . Another source uses the spelling Detroit Air-Cooled Car Company , i.e. with a hyphen.

Company history

The company was founded in Detroit , Michigan in the spring of 1922 . WJ Doughty, GR Tremolada, CH Bennett, August Gieseler, Frank Sanders and John McArthur were involved. In February 1922, a prototype stood at the Detroit Automobile Show . The brand name was DAC . Plans totaled 10,000 vehicles in the first year. However, a plant was only opened in October 1922. In April 1923, another plant was moved in Wayne . Production ended in 1923.

22 vehicles were built in 1922 and 150 in 1923. That makes 172 vehicles in total.

The vehicles had a six-cylinder engine with 32 hp . The air cooling was unusual . The chassis had a 292 cm wheelbase . Open and closed structures were available. The touring car had space for five people. There was also a four-seat coupé and a five-seat sedan .
