Front Drive Motor Company , previously Gregory-Craun Motor Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ben F. Gregory (1890–1974) was a fan of front-wheel drive . In 1920 he founded the Gregory-Craun Motor Company in Kansas City , Missouri, together with William H. Craun . There he made a prototype in 1920 . Some racing cars followed. In 1921 he presented a vehicle at the Kansas City Automobile Show .

In early 1922 it was renamed Front Drive Motor Company . Vehicles have now been manufactured in cooperation with the OE Szekely Company . The brand name was Gregory . Production ended in 1922. A total of between 10 and 30 vehicles were built.

The specialty of the vehicle was the front-wheel drive. The prototype of 1920 was based on a chassis of Scripps-Booth .

One of the racing cars had an aircraft engine made by the Curtiss Airplane and Motor Company , the Curtiss OX-5 . Another got a V8 engine from Hispano-Suiza .

The series vehicles had a four-cylinder engine with 22 hp . The chassis had a wheelbase of 279 cm . The only structure was an open roadster with two seats. The original price was 1550 US dollars .
