Frank B. Field and R. Butterworth jointly ran the business in Somerville , Massachusetts . In 1905 they made at least three passenger cars. They were named Butterworth , Field, and Field & Butterworth .

The first known vehicle was the Butterworth . It had an engine with 4 hp . Charles H. Butcher of Cambridge was the buyer.

The second known vehicle was the Field . Its engine developed 5 hp. Horace P. Berry of Watertown bought it.

The third known vehicle was named Field & Butterworth . It had an 8 horsepower engine. This vehicle was not sold but remained in the possession of R. Butterworth.
