Fiat Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
Businesspeople founded the company in Poughkeepsie , New York , in 1909 . There was a connection with Fiat SpA. The plant was completed in the spring of 1910. A little later, the production of automobiles began. The brand name was American Fiat . The vehicles were not allowed to be exported. Fiat took over the company in 1917 and stopped production in 1918. The work was taken over in February or March 1918, depending on the source by the Duesenberg brothers von Duesenberg or Rochester-Duesenberg .

Only large vehicles were on offer. One model was an independent development, while the others corresponded to European models from Fiat.
From 1910 to 1911 the Type 54 was the only model. It had a four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 5700 cc and an output of 30 hp (22 kW). The wheelbase was 315 cm. The open touring car offered space for five people.
In 1912 the Type 54 remained unchanged in the range. The independent Type 56 was added. It had a six-cylinder engine with upright valves , a displacement of 8600 cm³ and an output of 45 hp (33 kW). The wheelbase was 343 cm. A seven-seater touring car is the only body shape that has survived.
In 1913 the range consisted of three models. The new Type 55 ranked between the well-known Type 54 and Type 56 . Its four-cylinder engine developed 42 hp (31 kW) from a displacement of 9000 cm³. The chassis has a wheelbase of 325 cm. All were available as a seven-seat touring car, five-seat Phaeton , sedan and landaulet .
In 1914, the smaller type 53 added to the range. It had a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 4400 cc and an output of 25 hp (18 kW). The wheelbase was 295 cm. It was available as a five-seater touring car, roadster , runabout , sedan in 3 different versions, toy tonneau , coupé and coupé de ville . Landaulet, touring car, Phaeton, Runabout and two different sedans have been handed down for the Type 54 . The Type 55 was available as a seven-seater touring car, runabout, roadster, landaulet and two different sedans. For the Type 56 two different sedans, a five-seat Phaeton, touring car, runabout and landaulet are specified.
The Type 54 was discontinued in 1915 . The Type 53 remained unchanged. The Type 55 and Type 56 were available as five- and seven-seat touring cars, two-seat roadsters, three-seat runabouts, four-seat toy tonneau, seven-seat landaulet and two seven-seat sedans.
The Type 53 was discontinued in 1916 . The Type 55 was available as a seven-seater landaulet, five- and seven-seater touring car, three-seater runabout and two versions as seven-seater sedans. In the Type 56 , the engine output was now specified as 46 hp (34 kW). It was available as a seven-seat touring car, three-seat runabout, landaulet and seven-seat limousine.
From 1917 to 1918 only the Type 55 was available. Its wheelbase was lengthened to 356 cm. Seven-seater landaulets, five- and seven-seater touring cars, three-seater runabouts and seven-seater limousines have survived.
