Rockford Automobile & Engine Company , formerly Federal Motor Company and Federal Automobile Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Federal Motor Company was founded in Chicago , Illinois in 1907 . Adam Ziska was superintendent and John F. Waters the designer. They started with the production of automobiles. The brand name was Federal . In 1907 the company name changed to Federal Automobile Company .

In 1908 the company moved to Rockford , also in Illinois. Another renaming led to the Rockford Automobile & Engine Company . The brand name was Rockford in 1908 and then again Federal .

In May 1909 the Industrial Automobile Company from Elkhart , Indiana took over the company. It is possible that some vehicles with the previous brand names were created as a result.

There was no association with the Federal Motor Vehicle Company , which previously used the same brand name.
