The company Johnson Controls International plc (JCI) is a global Irish conglomerate with US roots and the major lines building and industrial services.

Corporate history

In 1883, Warren Seymour Johnson received the patent for the first electric room thermostat . From this the building services company Johnson Electric Service Company in Milwaukee , USA developed in 1885 .

Johnson Service Company was a previous company name that is documented at least for the period from 1905 to 1912.

The company was renamed to its current name in 1974.

Merger with Tyco International

On January 25, 2016, Johnson Controls and Tyco International announced a business combination. The group created by the merger will operate as Johnson Controls plc and will have its headquarters in Cork , Ireland.The merger was completed on September 6, 2016.

Splitting up

On October 31, 2016, the spin-off of a leading global manufacturer of car seats, the former Johnson Controls Automotive Seating , was completed. Today the business operates under the name Adient . At the beginning of May 2019 it was announced that the former Johnson Controls Power Solutions had become the independent company Clarios , one of the largest suppliers of car batteries (12 and 48 volts ).

Building Efficiency

The Building Efficiency division offers products, services and solutions from the areas of heating, air conditioning, industrial cooling, absorption cooling, roof technology, ventilation technology, building management, security technology and industrial services. The division has more than 500 branches in 150 countries. On September 1, 2015, the Global Workplace Solutions division was sold to CBRE.

Automotive Experience

As a manufacturer of automotive interiors and electronics, the company now has more than 250 locations in 125 countries. The European headquarters of the automotive interiors division is Burscheid . On July 1, 2014, the electronics division was sold to Visteon. The automotive division was spun off from the group in 2016 and has been called Adient since 2016 , based in Ireland.

Power Solutions

As a manufacturer of starter batteries for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and batteries for hybrid vehicles, the company has production facilities in six countries. The European headquarters of the Batteries division is in Hanover-Marienwerder .

Former vehicle production

From 1901, the company manufactured commercial vehicles with steam engines. In 1905 passenger cars followed . At first it was steam cars and from 1908 automobiles with gasoline engines . Vehicle production ended in 1912.

20 cars with steam engines were built. From 1908 onwards there were around 60 cars and 120 trucks a year .
