Armstrong from 1896

Armstrong Manufacturing Company was an American company.

Company history

Frank Armstrong and Henry House began building tools and machines in 1870 . In 1872 they founded the company on Knowlton Street in Bridgeport , Connecticut . House left the company in 1883, after which Armstrong built a new factory. A catalog from 1887 contains customer publications dating back to 1884. In 1896 one or more automobiles were built. The brand name was Armstrong . One vehicle still exists.

It is unclear whether the company is identical to the company called United Pattern Company , which was founded in the same town as Armstrong Manufacturing Company on March 2, 1886 , renamed in 1952, and dissolved in 1980. Company name, city and industry speak in favor, the year against it.

vehicles

There is only data from the surviving vehicle. It has a two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 6500 cm³ . The engine power is transmitted to the rear axle via belts. The hybrid drive is unusual .

The wheelbase is 188 cm. The open body offers space for four people.

The vehicle took part in a Concours d'Elegance in Schwetzingen in 2002 . In 2005 it was in the Loder Collection in Lower Beeding in England and in 2012 in the Bexhill Museum in Bexhill-on-Sea .

In October 2014, RM Auctions offered the vehicle at an auction. The Bonhams auction house auctioned the vehicle on March 10, 2016 for around 400,000 euros .
