history
The land belonged to the settlement area of the Siwanoy Indians and was bought in 1661 by the English merchant John Richbell for the trade in tools, clothes and implements. In 1700 the settlement had about 80 inhabitants. On May 17, 1788, the place was officially founded by the state of New York.

Mamaroneck is the seat of the comic book publisher Archie Comics . The 36-hole golf course Winged Foot Golf Club , which was built in 1921 by Albert Warren Tillinghast , is located in the village .
