Dominic Edward "Dom" Parsons (born September 8, 1987 ) is a British skeleton pilot .

Career

Dominic Parsons was a 400m runner before joining Skeleton in 2007 through Adam Pengilly at the University of Bath . He contested his first European Cup race in January 2008 and was able to finish in the top 10 for the first time in the following season in Igls . In January 2009 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Königssee and took fourth place.

In the 2009/10 season he contested three more European Cup races and again reached fourth place at the Junior World Championship in St. Moritz . In the winter of 2010/11 , Parsons competed in the Intercontinental Cup , where he finished fifth in the overall ranking. He then returned to the European Cup and was able to celebrate his first victory in Winterberg , whereupon he was used again in the Intercontinental Cup .

After four podiums in a row in the Intercontinental Cup 2012/13 including a win in Park City , Parsons made his World Cup debut in La Plagne in December 2012 . At the 2013 Skeleton World Championship in St. Moritz, he finished ninth. In the 2013/14 season , Parsons reached his first World Cup podium in third place in the first race of the season in Calgary . He represented his home country at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi , where he finished tenth. In the 2014/15 season , Parsons came fourth twice in the World Cup and otherwise reached places between 7 and 14, which made him fifth in the overall standings. He finished seventh at the 2015 Skeleton World Championship in Winterberg.

His greatest sporting success to date is winning the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .

In addition to competitive sports, Dominic Parsons is doing a doctorate in mechanical engineering at the University of Bath .
