The Skeleton Intercontinental Cup was held for the fifth time in the 2011/12 season. He acted as a link between the World Cup and the continental racing series, the European Cup and America's Cup . The Intercontinental Cup was an official racing series of the World Federation FIBT , the results were included in the FIBT Skeleton Ranking 2011/12 .

Season course

Men

The first half of the season was dominated by German starters, especially Michi Halilovic , but to a lesser extent Sandro Stielicke . Halilovic won the first four races of the season in Lillehammer and Sigulda . The podium placements were identical in both double events. In addition to the Germans, the British, in particular, were able to place the Russian starter Anton Batuev and, to a lesser extent, the Canadians, while the Americans continued their decline, which began in the previous seasons and was also reflected in the other racing series. Traditionally, at the races in Sigulda, the German starters were on average weaker than at other tracks, while Latvians and Russians in particular placed better than in most other races.

Women

Women dominated the first half of the season and took the top three places in the overall standings during this period. Elizabeth Yarnold not only won the first two races in Lillehammer, but also placed on the podium in the two following races in Sigulda. There was also a duel between the British and the Germans among the women, with the young German riders led by Sophia Griebel , alongside the Canadian Lanette Prediger, as the only starters able to stand up to the British women . Traditionally, at the races in Sigulda, the German starters were on average weaker than on other tracks, while Latvians and Russians in particular placed better than in most other races. With Undīne Vītola , a Latvian starting for Azerbaijan was able to place very well as fifth in the first race.

Starting places
